Issue #183: December 1, 2006

Broadway

  • Now that his TV show Deadwood has been cancelled, Ian McShane heads to Broadway in October in the revival of Harold Pinter’s The Homecoming.
  • The Roundabout Theater Company is planning to remount Crag Lucas’ Prelude to a Kiss which opens for a limited run on March 1 at the American Airlines Theater.

Broadway On The Road

  • Kelli O’Hara is on board to star in the remounting of Sunday in the Park with George at the Freud Playhouse at UCLA on January 31.

London's West End

  • Tony Award winner Jonathan Pryce (Miss Saigon) will star in the upcoming production of David Mamet’s play Glengarry Glen Ross. A limited run is scheduled from October 2007 to January 2008.
  • Another Tony winner currently in London, Idina Menzel… best known with her green paint will be taking her last bow in Wicked on December 30 at the Apollo Victoria Theatre.  Ready to step in is Kerry Ellis whose past performances were seen in Les Miserables, Miss Saigon and most recently We Will Rock you.

Bits & Pieces

  • I was fortunate to be invited to the opening night of Chicago on November 21 in Toronto.  This touring production starring former “Backstreet Boy” Kevin Richardson certainly stands the test of time.  When many road companies get a little tired… this production is as fresh as can be.  But I’m sure it also has everything to do with the brilliance of Kander and Ebb’s saucy lyrics and music and of course this musical is the best showcase for Fosse’s dancing.  The Broadway production is celebrating 10 years of the revival and I’m sure we will be celebrating another 10 years down the road since this is truly what Broadway is all about and stands the test of time.
